Hello everyone! Come in, come in! I just want to take a moment to say hello and to share a bit about myself...
...So this is a portrait taken by not a photographer but a very dear friend (Emily Bukowski). I could have chosen a more traditional image but I feel it captures me perfectly. My lack of makeup and snowy wind fixed hair... but a warm smile. It reveals me in my element. This image was taken in a quaint little coffee shop in Reykjavik, Iceland. It holds hints of my love of to travel, in a place that holds an opportunity to experience people in elements unique to me but so comfortable to them... sharing a small glass of wine with a very close friend... I guess you could say she nailed it! She "sees" me.
As you might be able to tell, I much prefer to be behind the camera, my arms folded across my chest. I hope those small imperfections make me a bit less intimidating and more approachable.
I fell in love with the art of photography after my dad gave me his old SLR Minolta to use for a black and white photography course. I then took that little camera to Nepal... where I found that I could document my surroundings... record history and relive feelings that I was reminded of by the moments that were frozen in time with the click of a button.
Most of what I love about photography is the opportunity to record REAL moments. I love people, faces and expressions, relationships and connections, interactions of joy and kindness and yes sometimes even sadness andheartache. You see, before I fell in love with photography, I worked in human services but I craved to be creative... so I began exploring the world of photography again. I have had some formal education and training but a lot of what I know is through hands on exploration. I continue to explore educational opportunities because I believe that there are endless things to learn. I hope that my compassion for people and love of their individuality and uniqueness shines through in my photographic approach.
In todays world, so much of what we see is contrived and perfected in some fashion... I try my very best to record individuals honestly and authentically. Life is NOT perfect but it is BEAUTIFUL!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
